Every week, hiring managers at crypto companies scroll through dozens of applications and pass on most of them , not because the candidates lack talent, but because they're presenting themselves the wrong way.
Here's what actually matters when you're hiring in Web3, and what most candidates are getting wrong.
They want proof, not potential.
Traditional industries hire on credentials. Web3 hires on evidence. A degree from a top university matters far less than a GitHub with real commits, a track record of shipping, or experience navigating a bear market without jumping ship.
If your resume reads like a list of job titles with no context on what you actually built, owned, or fixed , it's going to get skipped. Hiring managers in this space want to see what you did, not just where you worked.
Domain knowledge is non-negotiable , even in non-technical roles.
This is the one that surprises people. Even if you're applying for a marketing, operations, or HR role, you need to understand the space. Not at a developer level, but enough to hold a conversation, understand the product, and speak the language.
Candidates who clearly learned about "blockchain" the night before their interview are easy to spot. The ones who've been following the space, using the products, and forming their own views stand out immediately.
Culture fit in Web3 is different.
Crypto companies move fast, operate lean, and expect a high degree of ownership. If you're used to a structure where every decision goes through three layers of approval, that transition can be rough.
The best candidates for Web3 roles are the ones who can operate with ambiguity, take initiative without being told, and still deliver.
The fix is simpler than you think.
Tailor your application to the company's actual product. Show that you've used it, understood it, or at least researched it properly. Lead with impact, not responsibility. And if you're new to the space , be honest about it, but show genuine curiosity and a learning track record.
The bar isn't impossible. It's just different.
